Residential Tax Incentives
- Exemption if new house is built where an old house is being demolished
- If a new house is built on a residential lot where the existing buildings have a fair market value assessment of 25,000 or less, and if the old building is demolished, Council will offer a five-year exemption on the new building assessment, with taxes being calculated on the old building assessment.
- Exemption if new construction is added on to old house
- If there is new construction added on to an existing house with a fair market value assessment of 25,000 or less and the new construction value is over $50,000, built to code, has a matching exterior with the old portion of the house and is aesthetically pleasing to the neighbourhood, Council will offer a three-year tax exemption on the building assessment for the new construction. The value of the new construction to be determined by the building inspector.
- Exemption if new house is built on vacant land in the core area
- If a new house is built on a vacant residential lot in the core area of town (east of 4th Avenue and north of 11th Street), Council will offer a three-year tax exemption on the new building assessment.
