Rosthern Fire/Rescue is constantly looking for community spirited, motivated men and women for Volunteer recruitment.

Every year we bring new recruits on board for rookie positions in the Fire Department.

As a member of our Fire Fighter's Association, you become a part of the fire fighting fraternity.

If you have attained the age of 18 years, you may have a future serving our community proudly, by becoming a Volunteer Fire Fighter.

For those who are at least 16 years of age with written parental consent, there are Junior Firefighter positions available.

What do you need to become a Volunteer Fire Fighter?

Is there anything else that will aid my chances of being a successful applicant for the Fire Department?

What does Rosthern Fire/Rescue do?

What will you get?

Training

Rosthern Fire/Rescue strives hard to have a high standard of training. Through your probationary period you will receive your training from fellow Fire Fighters teaching their area of expertise. Occasionally, there are opportunities to train with our Mutual Aid Fire Departments, which enables all departments to work effectively together on-scene.

Twice a year, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Fire Fighters Association offers Fire School. Applications are made to the Chief/ Deputy Chief who then forwards the applications to the organizers of the Fire School. Acceptance into the courses is based on the amount of applications received for that course.

What items will I be specifically trained in as a Volunteer Firefighter?

What are the duties of a Volunteer Firefighter within a Fire Department?

As a volunteer firefighter, from time to time you will:

Are there Junior Firefighters?

If you have attained the minimum age of 16 and have written consent of your parents, you may apply for the Junior Firefighter position. Juniors will be trained to the same standards as regular firefighters although some of the duties of a Firefighter will not necessarily be given to a Junior Firefighter due to the dangerous nature of that specific duty. Juniors are highly encouraged to participate in the training sessions. Responding to emergencies from school will only be done with parental and school permission.

How many calls does the Fire Department respond to in a year?

Every year is different; hot, dry spring conditions may increase call volumes due to grass fires. Similarly, adverse weather conditions in the winter may increase the number of auto extrication calls.

We average approximately 25-30 calls per year.

How do I get started?

Applications may be picked up from the Town of Roster Office, located at the corner of Railway Avenue and 6th Street, or downloaded here as a PDF. After filling out the application, you will go for a medical exam from your medical practitioner to determine your fitness for firefighting duties. Both forms should be submitted to the Town of Rosthern. The application will be reviewed with Senior Fire Officials. You will receive either a letter or a phone call when you are accepted that will give you further direction.
